Spring is officially here on the calendar .. but here in Ypsilanti, Michigan I still see a hefty coverage of brown, dirty snow still.
(snow, I love ya baby.. but you just gotta go)
I am feeling Spring – with my seedlings going strong, I felt inspired by flowers and seeds & came up with fun floral henna tattoos on the back of my dear friend. I love how the only space I had to work with on her back was the perfectly sweet little teardrop . المراهنات على المباريات I really like having a CREATIVE space to work with . Plus, this sweet girl just got back from a 3 week exploration trip in New Zealand & Australia so she has a nice glow to her skin. لعبة بلاك جاك مجانية (She has such a pretty face, too)

Tis the season for baby bellies ! I had a great opportunity to do a fun baby belly design and henna tattoos for a party at the same time here in Ann Arbor at the Bead Gallery . The mommy-to-be was having a boy so she wanted a sun for her son , but still some flowers so I did a “son-flower” (sunflower) design with floral elements around it.
We also did henna tattoos on both her hands to compliment her baby belly design :: see more baby belly designs here

And the last impromptu design, which I found to be the most fun to be creative with ! I rarely will apply henna to the face, but she wanted it SO badly – and I think it looked super cute 🙂 xoxo

I am happy to announce that I have really been enjoying designing for Zazzle.com . It has given me the opportunity to get creative in the digital world, too. I’m constantly adding to the store, but you can check it out here: Kelly Caroline Design on Zazzle
A product I’d like to feature today is the Floral Longboard Design . Lately here in Ypsi, I’ve been noticing quite a few female longboarders. I thought about how many will be coming out of hibernation come April and it lead me to design this.
Here’s looking to Spring!

Have I mentioned how much I love to do baby belly henna designs ? ? Why.. yes, I have. This past week I have had three baby belly henna designs to do. Here are photos from my most recent client who came to the salon. She is at that perfect time to have henna designs on your belly – that 30 – 37 week mark. Just in time to have her photoshoot session, too. She and and her friend who drove her were lovely. Plus, her friend got in on some henna action, too .
For the baby belly design, she wanted it to be less of a circular, mandalla design and more flowing henna design with flowers including a henna peacock . This is what I came up with. I think she really liked it.
It makes me so happy to see others happy from my art : )

Because my family and I are silly, we do things like this. My husband and I are big Jawbreaker fans so with help from our son, we recreated the poster I gave my husband for Christmas. The poster is the picture from the back of the Dear You album.
The band was kind enough to share our picture on their Facebook page
So here is our Jawbreaker Family Photo
Enjoy

Hello all! Happy Fall! It’s this time of the year that I am so happy to be a henna artist in Michigan because I get enjoy this beautiful fall weather. When I was a henna artist in Orlando, Florida working at Universal Studios, the people were always so fun because they were on vacation, but after a long, hot summer I need a cool Fall and chilly Winter but living in Florida, you don’t get fun season changes . Being a henna artist in Michigan , specifically Ypsilanti, Michigan is what I love.
Today I met a lovely client who wanted to pamper herself so she booked a private appointment at the henna salon. She requested fun, floral designs with vines for the tops of her hands and the tops of her feet . This was her first time having henna applied so before her appointment she read the FAQ – frequently asked questions about henna and how to prepare for her appointment.
Here are the photos of her henna on the tops of her hands and feet.

I have been one busy henna artist this past summer! I have met so many wonderful clients who are now “regulars” at the salon & I have been to numerous awesome events. I have been so busy in fact, this summer I have added to my business two wonderful henna artists Sarah & Sathya. Lovely, talented artists who I am so glad to have on our team.
Since I have left you without many pictures to gaze on, here’s a bunch of recent henna designs from parties and events all across Michigan this summer. These range from weddings , to sweet 16 birthday parties , bridal showers & private appointments at the henna salon . ENJOY!

Today I had a henna party at the salon here in Ypsilanti, MI . This was a really fun group – a family that is hosting their own henna party with one of our henna artists. They came into the salon to have their henna designs done before the party they are having. Each of the girls had picked out a henna design and I repeated a similar design on their hands and feet. Here are the pictures :

This has been one eventful summer! We have been to a lot of graduation parties, birthday parties & parties just for the sake of having a party. For larger parties we like to bring simple henna designs so we can get to as many guests as possible. But today I had a more intimate house party with some lovely ladies so we got to get creative with the henna designs.
Here are two of the fun designs we did .
One was for the host of the party. She wanted a henna sun design in the middle of her back. She really liked it.

For this other henna design, she requested a cuff design. I also really liked her permanent tattoos.

I really like to do henna on creative places of the body. Sometimes I get to do some sexy henna designs like this one here on the top of the thigh. I think this falls into the ” sexy henna ” category because of the placement and because of the organic movement of the design. A henna design like this would be cute for a wedding instead of a garter of something fun for a party.
Without further adieu – here’s a pic of some sexy henna for your enjoyment .

I had a great group of ladies who came in for a session of Henna for a Bachelorette Party . They came into my salon to celebrate the non-traditional bride and her soon-to-be wedding day . I have to say, I do love some girl talk while I get to do henna for a bachelorette party.
Here are the pictures . This is what the bride had done – two hands with henna glove designs that she choose as well as a mandala henna design on her left shoulder .

This girl choose an interesting concept. She wanted a trail of flowers from her hand to her upper arm and then ends with a tree on the top. Very “out of the box” but she ended up really loving it.

For this one, she asked for overlapping flowers that trailed up the arm and with a butterfly somewhere in the design. So here is her floral henna sleeve .

This girl has my sense of humor. She wanted an octopus on her arm and cherry blossoms on her hand. So cute.

The importance of henna for weddings, especially Indian weddings, doesn’t just stop at the bridal henna design. The mother of the bride and sister of the bride’s henna needs to be very special, too. Often time the bride’s mother and sister will come to my henna salon the day before before the official Mehndi party and have their henna applied so that their stain has already developed by the time of the henna party. Today the mother and sister came in to the salon because they wanted more elaborate henna designs than time would allow for tomorrow when we have 70 guests to henna-up at the Mehndi party. The bride is also getting married in Troy, Michigan with the reception the next day in Ohio.
Here are pictures of the henna for the weddings :

Here is a very intriguing Taurus henna tattoo design that a client’s boyfriend designed for her May birthday. I really liked the circular movement that the design had. He drew it for her and she thought she would get it in Henna on her shoulder. What do you think?

One of the main ingredients of my henna mixture is tea tree oil. Tea tree oil has that fresh, mint-like smell that is invigorating to the senses. Here’s some background information on tea tree oil and some tea tree oil uses : “Tea tree oil, or melaleuca oil, is a pale yellow color to nearly colorless and clear essential oil with a fresh camphoraceous odor. It is taken from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia.”

Tea tree oil uses extend to medicinal as well. The indigenous Bundjalung people of eastern Australia use “tea trees” as a traditional medicine by inhaling the oils from the crushed leaves to treat coughs and colds. Some sources suggest beneficial medical properties when applied topically, including antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiseptic qualities. The antiseptic properties can help in the fight against skin blemishes (acne). It also has beneficial cosmetic properties.
By using tea tree oil in my henna mixture, it actually adds a skin healing element to the lovely design you’ll receive. If you’re a fellow henna artist, I would suggest giving tea tree essential oil in your henna paste a try. Since there are so many uses for tea tree oil, it’s a win/win
