February 27th we are hosting “Celebration Henna Crowns” at the Wyandotte Public Library, Bacon Memorial District Library . “Celebration Henna Crowns” is an afternoon of beautiful henna designs for men, women, and children with alopecia or undergoing chemotherapy. The event is from 2:00-5:00 pm.
Henna Crowns offer a beautiful alternative to the traditional hats, scarves, and wigs that many use. Henna is a natural way to beautify the body and celebrate life. This is a free event for anyone who has lost his or her hair due to chemotherapy or alopecia.
“Kelly decorated my bald head when I lost all my hair to chemo treatment.” said Patricia Berry from Ypsilanti. “The design was beautiful and her presence was lovely at the celebration henna party we threw to mark the event. She’s an amazing artist, a consummate business professional and a good soul.”
Guests may choose from floral designs, tribal and geometric designs, or bring their own ideas. Each guest will get a unique, personal design. It is recommended that the head is free of lotions or oils prior to the henna being applied. There will also be brief presentation of the history and use of henna as well as how the natural paste is made from organic henna leaves and pure essential oils
The event is free, so call to reserve your spot (734) 536-1705Read More

Want to know more? Read this quick history of Henna:Henna is an all natural dye for the skin. Henna is extracted from the Lawsonia inermis tree by drying and grinding leaves and stems. The greenish powder, when mixed with an lemon juice, makes a temporary red, brown, or orange design on a porous surface. Indian families use henna in ritual skin painting, called Mehndi, for birth and marriage celebrations. Arabic and Turkish cultures also use henna. Western cultures have adopted henna to make temporary tattoos and organic hair dye. The Lawsonia inermis grows in hot, arid regions like North Africa and India. For centuries, people ground the foliage of the plant into a powder to dye cloth and skin. The strong pigment, lawsone, actually temporarily stains the skin. The dye is a dark pigment, but does not alter the surface permanently.

Sangeet Henna Artist Michigan
Oh boy have I had such a fun summer! So many of you have had excellent henna parties all across the state of Michigan and I and Lisse have been able to attend as your henna artists. Lisse and I have both travelled to Traverse City and Cadillac Michigan for different events : a henna workshop at the Traverse City Library , two graduation parties and a few corporate events. I have been to Canton, Royal Oak, Troy and Rochester Hills for many Michigan high school grads this summer and Lisse has been to Saline, Ann Arbor, and Dexter for birthday parties and girls nights. My henna studio in Ypsilanti has been buzzing with private appointments all season. We thank you for such an amazing Summer and are looking forward to a great Autumn.
This past week I did two henna parties for the same family, who previously had me as their henna artist for their son’s wedding two years ago in Cincinnati. Now it was the daughter’s turn to be married, and I have to say how thrilled I was to be working for this great, warm, friendly and super fun family again. On Wednesday was the bride’s mehndi party for her closest friends, aunties and family members. I was overwhelmed at how much love and joy was in the room! I also got to meet a few new ladies, including Monika who’s musing blog is over at Quibbling : Observations of the World Around Me - if you like to take a deep observational look at the ordinary, check her work out.
On Friday was the Sangeet at the Eagle Crest Marriott in Ypsilanti. A Sangeet is a party the day before an Indian wedding, filled with fun presentations, dances, speeches, and games put on by the bride and groom’s family and friends. I always have a great time attending a Sangeet as a henna artist because you get to see the fun and silly side of the families. Not to mention the amazing color and decorations! The decorations were done by the ladies at JDV Events . Go look at their AMAZING gallery of weddings including their traditional weddings as well as their fusion weddings – so lovely. I snagged some pictures at the Sangeet this weekend. I was set up in this colorful jewel-toned lounge for henna.
I also got a few photos of the henna tattoos from two days before that were done at the Mehndi party. It’s rare when I see designs after they have walked away! Such is the life for henna artist Michigan .
Here are a few pictures of the mehndi I did for the guests the night of the Sangeet
And of course, no Indian wedding post would be complete without seeing the bride’s mehndi ! I was so lucky I got to spend so much time doing this lovely bride’s henna because she is such a loved person by her friends and family, and I can see why!
She wanted traditional henna, fitting for a bride.
I love my business and how many great people I get to meet through it!

Happy Spring everyone! Starting to see more skin lately, here in the great state of Michigan. The majority of the Arctic weather has about passed here and once again it is the beginning of sandal & tank top weather which means the salon is starting to be buzzing with clients once again.
Lately the majority of my clients have been lovely mothers-to-be getting baby belly henna, pregnancy henna, prenatal henna (whatever you call it, it is so adorable!) I have said it before and I’ll say it again, as a henna artist in Michigan, one of my favorite henna designs is prenatal henna – mandalas henna designs, tree henna tattoos, floral henna – all of it is so fun!
Check out my latest henna tattoos for pregnant women . For the first one here, this is the second time I have gotten to do a henna design for this mother. The first time she was carrying twins with this tree design some of you might remember
This time around, she wanted a tree, but since it wasn’t twins, she wanted a similar design.
We did a single tree design with 5 flowers around it, symbolizing each member of her growing family. So sweet.
At her appointment, she had a few friends gathering around her as her support group. They each got henna tattoos done as well. Here are a few:
Another fun appointment lately was for a set of two good friends who were about 3 weeks apart in their pregnancy so they decided to get henna tattoos together to celebrate their upcoming births.
One of the women chose to have a mandala henna tattoo with a floral theme.
Her friend chose also a symmetrical mandala design but with an OHM symbol in the center to represent peace for her birth.
And for my favorite picture, here is a very lovely picture of the two mommies together with their prenatal henna designs

Lately I’ve been wanting to draw on ol’ fashion paper with a marker so this is what I came up with! Of course, its a henna drawing.
I love to practice henna designs on paper.
I think this design would be so sexy on the back between the shoulder blades or for a baby belly design.

As promised, here are the henna party pictures from the 2-day event for a great bride. I really enjoyed meeting all her family – traveling from all over the world from San Francisco, CA to Brooklyn, NY to Frankfort, Denmark ! The second day’s event was held at the lovely Dearborn Inn in Dearborn, Michigan.
It’s not often I am around to see the bridal henna stain the next day but since I was, I made sure to get a picture of her henna 24 hours after it was applied.
Day 1 – henna application
Day 2 – 24 hours later . It still has darkening to do over the next 12 hours.
Here are the henna party pictures from the two days of mehndi parties .
oh! I loved the beading on her beautiful dress!
Today was a great Mehndi party here in Ann Arbor with great Indian food ! I will have more pictures up soon but here is just a taste .

Henna crown designs are henna designs applied to a shaved head – usually due to hair loss from chemotherapy treatments. Henna crown designs are a great way to celebrate life and adorn yourself with art – in the midst of a hard situation. My most recent henna crown design was for a great girl, who was on her way to the 7th annual stupid cancer OMG2014 Summit for Young Adults .
And for the record, cancer IS stupid .
You can check out the video for the last year’s conference here :
Note * Is henna safe when you have cancer ? My answer is to check with your doctor before having henna applied because every medical situation is unique. I have never had a client being treated chemotherapy have any negative reaction to henna. That being said, check with your doctor first. Before you have henna applied, you should ALWAYS check the ingredients with the artist to ensure the henna paste only has henna leaves, pure essential oils (ex: tea tree, lavender or eucalyptus ) , sugar, & water. This is true for anyone having henna done, but ESPECIALLY true for people who have cancer or extremely sensitive skin . Never (without exception) let anyone use “black” henna on your skin.
As for her henna crown designs , she brought in a few ideas with flowers and leaves and paisleys so I just combined them all together for one great look .
She was really thrilled with the results.
Tis the season for baby bellies ! I had a great opportunity to do a fun baby belly design and henna tattoos for a party at the same time here in Ann Arbor at the Bead Gallery . The mommy-to-be was having a boy so she wanted a sun for her son , but still some flowers so I did a “son-flower” (sunflower) design with floral elements around it.
We also did henna tattoos on both her hands to compliment her baby belly design :: see more baby belly designs here
A fun floral mehndi design from the finger to the wrist .
One henna tattoo design for the top of the hand and one for the palm – complimentary designs of paisley and florals
And the last impromptu design, which I found to be the most fun to be creative with ! I rarely will apply henna to the face, but she wanted it SO badly – and I think it looked super cute xoxo

Hello all! Happy Fall! It’s this time of the year that I am so happy to be a henna artist in Michigan because I get enjoy this beautiful fall weather. When I was a henna artist in Orlando, Florida working at Universal Studios, the people were always so fun because they were on vacation, but after a long, hot summer I need a cool Fall and chilly Winter but living in Florida, you don’t get fun season changes . Being a henna artist in Michigan , specifically Ypsilanti, Michigan is what I love.
Today I met a lovely client who wanted to pamper herself so she booked a private appointment at the henna salon. She requested fun, floral designs with vines for the tops of her hands and the tops of her feet . This was her first time having henna applied so before her appointment she read the FAQ – frequently asked questions about henna and how to prepare for her appointment.
Here are the photos of her henna on the tops of her hands and feet.
I have been one busy henna artist this past summer! I have met so many wonderful clients who are now “regulars” at the salon & I have been to numerous awesome events. I have been so busy in fact, this summer I have added to my business two wonderful henna artists Sarah & Sathya. Lovely, talented artists who I am so glad to have on our team.
Since I have left you without many pictures to gaze on, here’s a bunch of recent henna designs from parties and events all across Michigan this summer. These range from weddings , to sweet 16 birthday parties , bridal showers & private appointments at the henna salon . ENJOY!
Today I had a henna party at the salon here in Ypsilanti, MI . This was a really fun group – a family that is hosting their own henna party with one of our henna artists. They came into the salon to have their henna designs done before the party they are having. Each of the girls had picked out a henna design and I repeated a similar design on their hands and feet. Here are the pictures :Read More
This past week has been vey busy with henna parties. One of my favorites was a Mehndi Sangeet party in Ann Arbor at the Sheridan Hotel. I love the jewel tones at a Mehndi Sangeet party . Here are a few pictures of the henna we did:Read More
The importance of henna for weddings, especially Indian weddings, doesn’t just stop at the bridal henna design. The mother of the bride and sister of the bride’s henna needs to be very special, too. Often time the bride’s mother and sister will come to my henna salon the day before before the official Mehndi party and have their henna applied so that their stain has already developed by the time of the henna party. Today the mother and sister came in to the salon because they wanted more elaborate henna designs than time would allow for tomorrow when we have 70 guests to henna-up at the Mehndi party. The bride is also getting married in Troy, Michigan with the reception the next day in Ohio.
Here are pictures of the henna for the weddings :
Hello! Woah !! What a crazy past week I just had! I had 5 henna parties in three days. I really love doing henna parties. Everyone is always so excited when I get to the event. I had three high school senior all night parties from 11pm-3am in Farmington Hills, Bloomfield Hills, and Warren Michigan as well as a birthday party and graduation party. Henna parties a great addition to any event. So without further adieu, here are a few designs from the henna parties this weekend.
Hello! Yesterday I did henna for a mehndi party in Livonia, Michigan and wedding henna designs for a lovely bride. I worked with the bride on her arm and feet designs via email since she lives in Georgia. She did come into the henna salon for a wedding henna trial and consultation when she travelled to Michigan earlier this year. I was very happy with her henna design choices. Here are the pictures of her wedding henna :
Today my fashionista client came in today. She loves getting her henna tattoo on the hands because she says it gets the most comments since people can see it no matter what you wear. Of course I agree. I really like having a henna tattoo on the hands. Also I love the stain that comes from henna on the top or palms of the hands.
Here’s the picture I snapped of her design
Hi hi hi there. I had another great week .. Hope you did, too! Although, I’m Getting pretty pale and I wish the sun would come out once in a while. I can’t wait to do some henna designs on pretty sun-kissed skin. Here are two henna hand designs that I did on the hands Of two new clients. One wanted some coverage on the tops of her hands and then the other one wanted pretty dense Henna coverage on her palms.
