Want to know more? Read this quick history of Henna:
Henna is an all natural dye for the skin. Henna is extracted from the Lawsonia inermis tree by drying and grinding leaves and stems. The greenish powder, when mixed with an lemon juice, makes a temporary red, brown, or orange design on a porous surface. Indian families use henna in ritual skin painting, called Mehndi, for birth and marriage celebrations. Arabic and Turkish cultures also use henna. Western cultures have adopted henna to make temporary tattoos and organic hair dye. The Lawsonia inermis grows in hot, arid regions like North Africa and India. For centuries, people ground the foliage of the plant into a powder to dye cloth and skin. The strong pigment, lawsone, actually temporarily stains the skin. The dye is a dark pigment, but does not alter the surface permanently.

Happy Halloween (almost!)
An annual tradition that has been going on for 15 years now in my family has come and gone yet again- our Pumpkin Painting party! I love this time of the year to be with my family and we all get together and have a competition and a vote to see who’s pumpkin is the best decorated of the whole year. We also fry fresh doughnuts and since all of the men in my family are musical, we have a Monster Mash jam . It is my favorite family event of the year because of its quirks and creativity and everyone has FUN.
Here are the photos of our pumpkin painting ideas :
including – a Veggie Tales pumpkin painting, Cinderella’s carriage, Darth Vader pumpkin painting idea, an alien, Pinocchio pumpkin painting and my mom made the best overall pumpkin by making it into a blacklight lamp with fluorescent paint covering it.

How to make Mini Fruit Cones
Anyone who knows me, knows I cannot cook. However, I do get creative food ideas every once in a while, so they need to come out! This one I am particularly happy with. I was in charge of bringing the fruit to a 4th of July party, so I needed to think of a more creative way to present it than just a bowl. And DING! a light goes off- mini fruit cones ! I worked out the idea in my head, then made it happen. Here’s the tutorial for the perfect party snack Mini Fruit Cones
Mini Fruit Cones tutorial – How to display fruit for a party
Mini Fruit Cones
Supplies needed
Joy Mini Cups; Mini Ice Cream Cones for Kids, 42 Count (1 Box (42 cones))
Norpro 5135 Double Melon Baller
OXO Good Grips Melon Baller
Good Old Values Bamboo Toothpicks, Pack of 1000
Step 1
First, cut all the fruit you want – I went all melon because then it looks like ice cream, but you can use any fruits. Clean them, cut them into workable sizes, and start BALLING ! We kept all the sizes in separate bowls so it made assembling easier.
Step 2
And you will have lots of fruit leftover that looks like rotary dial phones! (we cut up that fruit and served it in a large bowl and it was yummy)
Step 3
Here is the dish of fruit kabobs we assembled. We mixed up what fruits were on the top and bottom, too. In the bottom of each cone, though is a cherry de-stemmed.
Most Important Tip! The kabob assembly can be done the night before, but wait to place the kabob in the cone until the day they will be served because the cone will get soft after 3 hours.
And ta-da! Mini fruit cones assembled and ready to be loved!

Happy Spring everyone! Starting to see more skin lately, here in the great state of Michigan. The majority of the Arctic weather has about passed here and once again it is the beginning of sandal & tank top weather which means the salon is starting to be buzzing with clients once again.
Lately the majority of my clients have been lovely mothers-to-be getting baby belly henna, pregnancy henna, prenatal henna (whatever you call it, it is so adorable!) I have said it before and I’ll say it again, as a henna artist in Michigan, one of my favorite henna designs is prenatal henna – mandalas henna designs, tree henna tattoos, floral henna – all of it is so fun!
Check out my latest henna tattoos for pregnant women . For the first one here, this is the second time I have gotten to do a henna design for this mother. The first time she was carrying twins with this tree design some of you might remember

This time around, she wanted a tree, but since it wasn’t twins, she wanted a similar design.
We did a single tree design with 5 flowers around it, symbolizing each member of her growing family. So sweet.

At her appointment, she had a few friends gathering around her as her support group. They each got henna tattoos done as well. Here are a few:

Another fun appointment lately was for a set of two good friends who were about 3 weeks apart in their pregnancy so they decided to get henna tattoos together to celebrate their upcoming births.
One of the women chose to have a mandala henna tattoo with a floral theme.

Her friend chose also a symmetrical mandala design but with an OHM symbol in the center to represent peace for her birth.

And for my favorite picture, here is a very lovely picture of the two mommies together with their prenatal henna designs
